A Asus notebook comparison

Asus is most famous for introducing the world to a completely new kind of computers. Very small notebooks, also called netbooks. Inspired by the OLPC project Asus was the first manufacturer to make a laptop which costed less than 400 USD, the Eee PC. To this day the Eee PC is one of the best netbooks available but the Taiwanese manufacturer also has many other lines. In general Asus is on of the cheapest manufacturers, maintaining a surprisingly high quality.
The Asus laptops can be categorized as follows:
  • Asus A-series & K-series notebooks are budget notebooks. They are between 14-inch and 17-inch, very suitable for documents and websurfing. The display and sound quality are good, making those laptops great for people who want the maximum value, for 500$ and even less.
  • Asus B-series & P-series laptops are designed with the business users in mind. They are reliable and well build. Depending on the configuration one can get sufficient performance to master every task, even light gaming is possible. The prices are higher than for the A & K-series notebooks, but the overall quality of the display, keyboard as well as the battery life make the notebooks worth their price. The cheapest business notebooks start around 700 USD
  • The Asus N-series features a strong video performance with good displays, making it a great choice as a home & multimedia laptop. Better version of the N-series are able to play many games, including newer titles. The prices for N-series laptops start at 800 USD.
  • The Asus G-series are designed for games. They are amongst the most powerful laptops available, and this for the lowest price, compared to the competition. Playing the newest video games demands the highest performing components which are quite expensive. Unfortunately the high performance and the cheap price, don’t leave room for a great display or good sound. Many G-series notebooks also suffer from a heat & noise problem. Still you will be hard-pressed to find more power for 1200 USD and less.
  • Asus U-series laptops are very lightweight with long lasting batteries. The main difference between U-series laptops and the Eee PC netbooks is the quality of the components used and the performance. U & UL-series notebooks have nicer displays, better processors, great keyboards and long battery life, but they cost 1000 USD and more.
  • Eee PC netbooks are best suited as secondary laptops because of the small display. They are great to use during a flight, or to carry it around frequently. Not only are they amongst the best build netbooks and have outstanding battery life of 8 hours and more, they also are comparably cheap, 400 USD and less.
